15 Summery Strawberry Cocktail Recipes

Put some summer in your drink.

When it comes to cocktails, strawberries get short shrift. Lemons and limes are all over bar guides, but where strawberries and booze are concerned, daiquiris take center stage. But daiquiris are really made for sitting on the beach, so here are 15 fresh strawberry cocktails you can drink anywhere.

1. Strawberry Rose Gin Fizz

If you're craving a drink that's elegant with an edge of fun, you can't do much better than a combination of rose water, gin, and strawberries with a little effervescence from soda.

2. Strawberry Pomegranate Mojitos

This refreshing spring cocktail takes the classic mojito as a jumping-off point and adds a sweet fruitiness that makes these mojitos dangerously drinkable.

Get the recipe from Diethood.

3. Strawberry Tarragon Smash

A smash is as fun to make as it sounds. So don't delay; vent your aggression and make a sophisticated cocktail all at the same time!

4. Strawberry Basil Bourbon Sour

Living life to the fullest means making your own strawberry-infused bourbon. And once you've got your own strawberry-infused bourbon, you'd be a fool not to make strawberry basil bourbon sours — so get on it already!

5. Strawberry Rosé Sangria

When you start experimenting with sangria, you'll never want to stop. Using rosé and fresh strawberries makes this iteration super refreshing on a hot summer day.

6. Roasted Strawberry Basil Agua Fresca

From time to time, human physiology demands that we drink not for the sake of intoxication, but for actual hydration. When hot, thirsty days set in, you'll want to have a cooling, entirely non-alcoholic glass of roasted strawberry agua fresca on hand. (Of course, you can also add a splash of vodka.)

7. Strawberry Basil Mint Cocktails

This Grand Marnier-based strawberry cocktail is a nice melding of sweet, herbaceous, and boozy flavors. Bonus: There's also a virgin version if you're feeling the need to lay off the sauce.

8. Strawberry Beer Lemonade

Some people will tell you it's sacrilege to add strawberries and lemonade to beer. But those people are insufferable beer nerds and they are missing out on delicious drinks and good times. Be the other kind of beer nerd — the fun kind.

9. Strawberry Jam Moonshine Cocktail

Distillers have recently discovered that they can sell un-aged whiskey by calling it white whiskey or moonshine. While these drinks are generally inferior on their own, their lack of complexity makes them a great base for mixed drinks — just make sure you don't overpay! Now that you're in the know, grab some moonshine, break out the strawberries and jam, and make this deliciously down-home cocktail.

10. Strawberry Basil Margarita

A hint of basil makes this sweet and frosty strawberry margarita totally grown-up.

This cocktail is to Wimbledon what crazy hats are to the Kentucky Derby. But unlike crazy hats, which you can't necessarily rock whenever you feel like it, the Pimm's Cup is completely delicious no matter when you drink it.

12. Strawberry Mint Tequila Smash

Your mom would probably disagree, but you're not drinking enough tequila. Seriously. Tequila is a more versatile liquor than you might think and it's time to start inventing all kinds of cocktails with it. Start with this amazing minty strawberry tequila smash.

13. Strawberry Kiwi Sangria

Strawberry sangria takes a tropical turn with the addition of tangy kiwis. Make a pitcher and find out why sangria is such a classic summertime sip.

14. Strawberry Rhubarb Shrub Cocktail

There are classic cocktails and there are classic cocktails. The shrub, made from a sweet vinegar-infused syrup, was popular in colonial America and has made a comeback in recent years. Hone your old-timey cred in style with this excellent strawberry rhubarb shrub recipe.

You're probably thinking this is some kind of cocktail detectives drink to help them track fugitives, but cocktails like that don't exist. This is just a simple and refreshing summer cocktail that combines strawberries with ingredients that a well-stocked home bar will have in spades.

We were so taken with Paul McGee’s fresh strawberry cobbler that we harvested five more seasonal sips from a crop of creative barmeisters around town. Get out your muddlers, shakers, strainers, and ice makers and throw a strawberry cocktail tasting party.

Paul McGee’s Strawberry Cobbler Cocktail

Choose the biggest, darkest-red strawberries you can find, because that’s what’s needed to stand up to the spirits in McGee’s nifty cocktail. McGee recommends Tequila Ocho and Lustau for the booze and local farmers’ markets for the berries.

Prep time: 10 minutes

1. Muddle 2 of the berries with the citrus wedges and the sugar in a julep cup or double rocks glass.

2. Discard the citrus rinds.

3. Pour in the tequila and sherry, quickly stir, and top with plenty of crushed ice.

4. Garnish with mint bouquet and a strawberry.

Tip: Taking a big whiff of the mint before each sip will accentuate the herbaceousness of the sherry.

Tulsa Queen

Laurent Lebec, bar director (Big Star)

1. Muddle the strawberry halves in a shaker tin.

2. Add the mint and bitters. Quickly muddle again.

3. Add the rye, brandy, lemon juice and honey syrup to the shaker.

4. Vigorously shake and strain into a cocktail glass.

5. Garnish with a twist of lemon peel.

Aged Rhum Strawberry Mojito

Diane Corcoran, beverage director (Bub City, RPM Italian, Three Dots and a Dash)

1. In a pint glass, muddle the strawberry quarters.

2. Add the mint leaves, lime juice, syrup, and rum.

3. Pour ingredients into a shaker tin and back into the pint glass. Do this twice.

4. Fill a hurricane or other tall glass with crushed ice. Pour in the drink; top with more crushed ice.

6. Garnish with a bouquet of mint and a whole strawberry.

Tip: Clapping (or “slapping”) the mint leaves between your hands releases their aromatic oils. Be gentle: no crushing or tearing.

Queen’s Club Strawberry Smash

Erin Hayes, bar manager (Lost Lake)

1. Muddle the strawberries in a tin shaker.

2. Add mint and lightly press in the tin.

3. Add the gin, Cocchi Americano, Campari, lemon juice, and syrup.

4. Add ice cubes and shake well.

5. Double strain into a goblet filled with crushed ice.

6. Garnish with mint bouquet.

Fresa Cerveza (strawberry whiskey sour)

Kyle Davidson, chief mixologist (Blackbird)

Hop oleo saccharum (enough hops for four cocktails)

1. Muddle hops into the sugar, making sure to break up the aromatic oils, and let sit for half an hour. (If you are in a hurry, 10 minutes is fine, but the quality and the quantity of the extraction improves with more time).

2. Add hot water and stir until clear (all the sugar should be dissolved), about 10–15 min.

3. Strain out all the hop particles.

4. In a tin shaker, muddle the strawberry.

5. Pour the hop oleo saccharum, bourbon, lemon juice, and vermouth over the strawberry.

7. Strain into a chilled stemmed glass.

FYI: “Hop oleo saccharum” is just a fancy term for hop syrup, but also refers to how the flavor is extracted.

Strawberry-Ginger Margarita

Madeleine Suter, manager (Antique Taco)

Ginger syrup (enough for four 10-oz. cocktails)

1. Peel the ginger and cut into small pieces.

2. Bring water and sugar to a boil. Add the chopped-up ginger.

3. Simmer for at least 30 minutes. Depending on the season of ginger and other external factors, the time factor of making the syrup can vary, so give the syrup plenty of special attention. You want it to be sweet and spicy. Not too watery.

4. Transfer the syrup to a temperature-proof container and nest in an ice bath (a large bowl filled with ice and cold water) till cool. Store any unused syrup in the refrigerator.

5. Purée and strain the strawberries.

6. Add the strawberry purée, ginger syrup, lime juice, orange juice, tequila, and salt to a tin shaker, then shake.

7. Pour the mixture over crushed ice in a 10 oz. glass—or in a 10 oz. Mason jar (as Suter does at Antique Taco).

10 Strawberry Drinks for Spring

I love the fact that strawberry and spring both start with the letter s. It makes certain alliteratively-inclined parts of my job so easy. Throw in the words sparkling and sipper and this title would have seeped into your brain so deep you'd never shake it off.

I'll spare you, though, and make a friendly suggestion to swing on into the kitchen some fine spring Saturday and suss out everything you need for one of these simple, sparkling, strawberry sippers, from strawberry basil margaritas to strawberry soda (no alcohol!) to strawberry sangria.

And yes, even if it's still a bit chilly in your sector of the world, strawberries are indeed about to arrive. I look forward to seeing them at the markets so much.

My Kind of Spring Drink Recipe: Strawberry Gin Smash

With more sunshine, my end-of-day goal is to spend a few moments putzing in my garden. This means dinner consists of simple recipes, served with easy but delicious drinks, like smashes. These smashes make up a whole new world of cocktails with endless options for muddling, mixing, and of course sipping. This one is just perfect for today's 10-Minute Happy Hour.

Strawberry Gin Smash: Watch the Video

In the world of cocktails, the smash is historically a drink that called for mint, a lump of sugar, ice, and the spirit of your choice. The Savoy Cocktail Book, originally printed in the 1930s, says "The smash is in effect a julep on a small plan."

Like the julep, smashes have come to include all sorts of fruit, and this one showcases sweet, ripe red strawberries. You can choose your spirit — rum, brandy, whiskey, and gin (my favorite!) all work. Add lemon, lime juice, or bitters to muddle with your sugar, or skip the sugar and top with a spritz. Basil and lemon balm, as well as the traditional mint, have made their way into smashes, too.

Do you love smashes? What's your favorite?

Strawberry Gin Smash Cocktail

1/2 teaspoon sugar

3 fresh strawberries, 2 hulled and sliced and 1 reserved for garnish

Fresh mint sprig, to garnish

In a tall glass, combine the sugar and a squeeze of juice from the lime wedge. Muddle with the back of a spoon to dissolve the sugar.

Add the sliced strawberries and lightly muddle.

Fill the glass with ice and add the gin. Top with a splash of club soda and garnish with the last strawberry and a sprig of mint.

A Pitcher of Strawberry Gin Smash

2 tablespoons sugar

2 limes, juiced, about 4 tablespoons

1 pound fresh strawberries

3 cups club soda

Fresh mint sprigs, to garnish

Muddle the sugar and limes in a pitcher that holds at least 8 cups (64 ounces). Set aside 6 to 8 small strawberries and make a small slice in their tips. Hull and slice the remaining strawberries and muddle the slices lightly with the sugar and lime juice.

Stir in the gin and club soda and pack the pitcher full of ice. Add mint sprigs to garnish. Pour into ice-filled glasses and garnish with a strawberry, slotted onto the edge of the glass.

  • Make-ahead note: You can make this ahead; mix everything except the club soda and ice, then refrigerate overnight. A night in the fridge will also help the strawberries add more flavor and color to the drink.

Strawberry Berryoska: A Fresh Vodka Lemonade Recipe

  • 3 mins
  • Prep: 3 mins,
  • Cook: 0 mins
  • Yield: 1 serving

The Strawberry Berryoska recipe is amazingly simple and refreshingly delicious. It is, quite simply, a vodka strawberry lemonade that is filled with fresh fruit. You'll find that it's an ideal vodka cocktail for summer.

The best part of this recipe is the fresh strawberries. They are muddled to extract their juice, remain in the glass, and are topped with a smooth Russian wheat vodka and lemonade. It should take just a few minutes to mix up and the simplicity only adds to the drink's appeal.

Use this recipe for summer picnics and barbecues and other parties. You can also make up a fresh Strawberry Lemonade for the kids using the same ingredients (without the vodka, of course).

What You'll Need

  • 1 1/2 ounces Russian Standard Vodka
  • 4 strawberries
  • 3 ounces lemonade
  • Strawberry for garnish

How to Make It

  1. Muddle the strawberries in the bottom of a tumbler or old-fashioned glass.
  2. Add ice, vodka, and lemonade.
  3. Garnish with strawberry slices laid out in a fan.

(Recipe from Russian Standard Vodka)

A Few Tips for Making the Best Strawberry Berryoska

The Vodka. Vodka has long been associated with Russia and it has a reputation for producing some very smooth options. Russian Standard is one of the best of the U.S. imports and a perfect example of what we've come to expect from the country's signature liquor.

This vodka is distilled four times from winter wheat. Many vodka lovers prefer it over some of the better-known brands like Grey Goose and Absolut, finding that it has a smoother and cleaner taste. Of course, taste is always subjective, but when it typically sells for $10 less than those others, it's definitely worth trying.

As always, feel free to use your favorite vodka in the Strawberry Berryoska. This is a fabulously fresh recipe that will show off any vodka you choose to pour.

The Strawberries. Choose the freshest strawberries for this cocktail. Rinse them in water and remove the stems before cutting each up into about four or five slices to make muddling easier.

When they're out of season, frozen strawberries will do. They're often already mashed, so let them warm up. To speed it up, muddling will break up the ice and release the juice. The drink isn't as neat looking as it is with fresh berries, but you still get the delicious taste.

You can also build on the berry flavor by adding other fresh fruits as they come into season. Raspberries and blackberries are a fun addition, as are blueberries and other fruits like apricot and mango.

The Lemonade. Lemonade is incredibly easy to make at home. All you need is lemon juice, sugar, and water. You will find that a homemade lemonade makes a superior cocktail for this recipe and any other you wish to make.

The key here is that you get to control the sweet-tart balance of the lemonade. Quite often, pre-mixed lemonades are either too sweet or too tart.

By opting for the made-from-scratch option, you have complete control. Plus, it saves quite a bit of money and we do love that.

If you're in the mood for a little sparkle, split the water in your lemonade with club soda or sparkling water.

How Strong Is the Strawberry Berryoska?

As long as you pour at least three ounces of lemonade, the Strawberry Berryoska is a relatively mild cocktail. With an 80-proof vodka, it has an alcohol content of about 12 percent ABV (24 proof). This is average for tall drinks and why it's perfect for casual sipping.

More Fresh Strawberry Vodka Cocktails

Fresh strawberries and vodka make an appearance in a number of tasty cocktails. For instance, the Stoli Accomplice uses another great Russian vodka with muddled strawberries and is topped with Champagne. Then, there's the Cherub's Cup, which adds a little elderflower and opts for a dry Rosé to add the sparkle

A really fun and super quick recipe is the Orchard Catch Cooler. For this, you'll toss a few basil leaves into the muddle, add vanilla vodka, then finish it off with a hard cider. It's a great drink for game day, barbecues, and other "beer"-worthy occasions.

Of course, when you feel like mixing up a boozy strawberry smoothie, there are recipes for that as well. The delicious Love Potion #9 has a touch of chocolate and an ice cream base. Or, should you be in the mood for something that's more tropical than indulgent, the Christmas Jones has a hint of pineapple.

Have fun with your strawberries. They are a fabulous cocktail ingredient and the possibilities are endless.

Strawberry Lemonade Mimosa

A sparkly strawberry mimosa cocktail that’s perfect for any festive occasion with juicy red strawberry flavor and a touch of lemonade.

Debbie and I love mimosa cocktails. Who doesn’t, really? They’re fruity, sparkly, elegant, easy. A sure fire way to class up ANY dinner party. They’re a classic brunch cocktail and are the absolute BEST at taking the edge off of a hangover if you happen to be nursing one at said brunch. 😉

This strawberry mimosa cocktail is fabulous for entertaining because, for one, serving them to your guests will make them feel elegant and special. There’s nothing quite like a bottle of bubbly for that. Even just popping the cork indicates that there is something special going on. From a casual get together to a formal engagement. And two, this mimosa recipe is damn easy, and quick to make a bunch at once or for refills! Your guests are going to love this one, so make sure to stock up on bubbly or ask your guests to bring a bottle if they ask to help out and you are willing to let them.

What makes this strawberry mimosa cocktail special is the strawberry lemonade compote that’s pre-made before hand and then added to the cocktail glass before pouring the mimosa. The compote is made with fresh squeezed lemon juice, sliced strawberries, and a little sugar then cooked down into a jammy consistency. It needs to cool before you add it to your mimosa, but its worth the wait. We love that you can make this stuff even days before your event and it will keep in the fridge until you are ready.

I have to say, I think this strawberry mimosa recipe has to be my new favorite. I love the sweet fruity tang of the strawberry lemonade compote mixed with the sparkling wine. It’s a winning combination that’s perfect for many occasions like:

  • Thanksgiving dinner party
  • Holiday Christmas party
  • New Years Eve!
  • Valentines Day cocktail
  • Mothers day – you might even have fresh local strawberries if your lucky
  • Bridal showers
  • Baby showers
  • Brunch with the ladies

We had these strawberry mimosa cocktails at Debbie’s this weekend for a little dinner party to celebrate my Grandma Pat’s birthday. They were dangerous! I could have easily finished off another sparkling wine bottle all to myself.

Don’t you LOVE these stemless champagne flutes? I think they are super cute. You can find them here if you like!
