20 Tea Cocktail Recipes
Tea Time Meets Cocktail Hour
Tea makes an appearance in a number of cocktail recipes, some are served warm while others are flavorful, spiked takes on iced tea. Either way, these drinks are the perfect way to combine cocktail hour with tea time and you'll have a ton of fun exploring the recipes.
The beauty of the tea cocktail is that it can be customized by choosing one type of tea or another. Perhaps you enjoy a particular green or black tea or maybe lavender or lemongrass tisanes are your favorites, feel free to experiment with those in some of these drinks.
Granted, not all teas will work in every drink. Yet, for the most part, the choice of tea is open to interpretation.
Pro Tip: Despite the name, the Long Island Iced Tea and its many variations contain no tea.
Hot Tea Cocktails
Hot tea drinks are comforting on cold winter days and anytime you need a warming pick-me-up. To ensure the warmest and freshest brew, begin by warming the water. After you have added the tea and it begins to steep, mix up the other drink ingredients. It's also important to pay attention to tea brewing times and temperatures to maximize the flavor of your tea drinks.
- Autumn Chai Swizzle - Simply add a little Bailey's to your cup of masala chai.
- Blueberry Tea - A fabulously simple tea cocktail with Grand Marnier and amaretto.
- English Christmas Punch - A traditional holiday punch that's like a warm rum and wine Sangria.
- Hot Toddy - The iconic winter cocktail, choose your favorite tea and mix it with brandy, rum, or whiskey.
Spiked Sweet Iced Tea Cocktails
Sweet tea is a favorite summertime drink and it gets just a little bit better when we add a shot of liquor to the mix. These cocktails are extremely simple and are best with a freshly brewed, then chilled iced tea.
As you will see with many of these recipes, the 'sweet' in sweet tea can come from a variety of sources.
One recipe may rely on a sweetened liqueur while another asks you to make a unique flavored syrup. Have fun with these and use them as inspiration for creating your own custom sweet tea recipes.
- Bourbon Tea - Limoncello and bourbon put an interesting twist on sweet Southern Tea.
- Ginger Tea - A little Cognac in your sweetened green tea? The mint and ginger are an extra bonus of flavor.
- Kentucky Tea - The lemon-mint-eucalyptus infusion puts a cooling spin on a bourbon-spiked sweet tea.
- Royal-Tea - The English do enjoy their tea and this simple sweet tea combines a famous London dry gin with the iconic Earl Grey tea.
- Summer Peach Tea Cocktail - Mix a Canadian whiskey with peach schnapps and add your favorite tea.
Pro Tip: You will get the most flavors from your tea if you use the traditional hot brewing method. However, you do need to chill it before making a cold cocktail. The quickest way to do so is to place the tea in the freezer for a few minutes. You can also place a tea-filled container in an ice bath for a quick chill.
More Iced Tea Cocktails
There are few things as refreshing as a tall glass of iced tea, especially on the warmer days of the year. The drinks below bring that tea to a whole new level by mixing it with a variety of ingredients.
In many of these recipes, the tea is often used as a background ingredient that merely enhances the drink's other flavors. They're fun and exciting, perfect for any afternoon.
- Cherry Bitch - Gin and black currant tea mix with fruits for a delightful cocktail.
- Irish Tea Party - Irish whiskey and absinthe are quite the spectacle in this iced green tea cocktail.
- Jalisco High Tea - Tequila, Cherry Heering, and lemon verbena tea mix up for a pleasant summer sipper.
- Mango Iced Tea - Quite simply Canadian whiskey and mango rum with your favorite iced tea.
Tea Martini Recipes
On occasion, we like to get short and fancy with our tea cocktails. The martini family of drinks is the perfect foundation for a spot of tea and a few extra ingredients transform these cocktails into delightful sippers you won't soon forget.
- Mistletoe Martini - A perfect recipe for the holidays, it's a vodka-spiked cranberry tea cocktail.
- Tea Tini - This simple recipe can take on any flavor you like depending on the tea you choose.
Tea Drinks Without the Booze
The Arnold Palmer is just one of many tea mixed drinks that skip the liquor altogether and these mocktails are fabulous for everyone.
- Arnold Palmer - Possibly the most famous tea drink, it's a perfect summery mix everyone loves.
- Hot Not Toddy - If you're in the mood for a Hot Toddy without the booze, this is the recipe for you.
- Rio Bravo Lemonade - The rooibos tea-infused pomegranate lemonade can be enjoyed on its own or mixed into the Borrachon cocktail.
Tea-Flavored Distilled Spirits
There are a few distilled spirits available that are flavored with teas. They are few and far in between, but when a distiller decides to take on the flavor, the result is often quite magical. One shining example of this is Charbay's Green Tea Vodka, which has a true tea flavor and is a pure delight to mix into many vodka cocktails. The distillery also makes a great ready to drink aperitif.
The easiest option for tea-flavored liquor is to infuse it yourself. Simply place tea bags in the alcohol and allow it to steep until it has reached your preferred taste (usually a couple of hours).
- Try the summer royale tea infused Flor de Caña Rum in the Mad Hatter's Tea Party
- The green tea infused gin used in the Gunpowder Gimlet.

A good recipe. It sounds delicious. Just a bit of suggestion in the name, ‘Chai Tea’ translates to ‘Tea Tea,’ as Chai already means ‘Tea’ in Hindi, therefore it becomes redundant and sounds hilarious to the natives. Cheers.
Well, this is a great tip! Thanks for letting us know, Rekha! :)

Tea Tini Recipe
- 3 mins
- Prep: 3 mins,
- Cook: 0 mins
- Yield: 1 serving
I really like this Tea Tini on spring and summer afternoons when a light, short drink is called for. Use a light iced tea for this refreshing Vodka Martini and, of course, fresh squeezed lemon juice.
This martini also begs for a splash of flavor and adding a small amount of berry, lavender, rosemary or chamomile to the steeping tea or using your favorite tea blend.
Earl Grey Infused Gin Cocktail
Infusing spirits with herbs, fruit, tea and other flavorings is a great way to add your own signature to a drink. Although many infusions can take days to weeks to really develop, using a concentrated infusing agent like a flowery Earl Grey tea speeds up the process and provides remarkably full flavors in just a few hours.
Inspired by a cocktail we had at a London pub recently, Paul reinvented this Earl Grey steeped gin cocktail that provides you with a surprising sense of relaxed sophistication – an afternoon of croquet in the garden followed by cucumber sandwiches. Crusts cut off, please and thank you.
- 1.5 oz simple syrup (see Notes for recipe)
- 1.5 oz lemon juice
- 3 oz Earl Grey infused gin (see Notes for recipe)
- 3 ice cubes (see Notes for recipe)
- club soda (sodium free)
- dried rose tea buds (optional, for garnish - we used Damask Rose Tea Buds from Harrods in London, of course)
- In a collins glass, combine simple syrup, lemon juice and the infused gin. Stir.
- Add 3 ice cubes and top off the glass with club soda. Stir again.
- If additional charmingness is desired for presentation, add an optional garnish of dried rose tea buds from Harrods in London and make sure to tell everyone where you got them.
• SIMPLE SYRUP: mix 1 cup sugar and 1 cup water in a saucepan over medium heat. Bring to a boil and stir until sugar is dissolved. Remove from heat and let cool. Pour into a glass jar and cover. Makes about 1½ cups and will keep in the refrigerator for a few months.
• ICE CUBES: chip pieces off an iceberg from your transatlantic ocean liner voyage and form into cube-like shapes, approximately 1 to 1.5 inches. Keep below 32°F (0°C) until ready to prepare this cocktail.

Just stumbled upon this recipe, it looks great! But you know the idea of mixing Earl Grey and gin is not at all new – when I was younger my grandmother (who came from the English Midlands) used to call it a Moseley Tea Service (which was near where she grew up) and it was her favorite cocktail.
Would be real interested to know if anybody else has heard this expression?
Do you need to strain the tea leaves out of the gin after it has been created? I am so excited for this cocktail. I love Gin & Earl Grey Tea.
Hi Amanda. We strain the gin through a tea strainer and save the earl grey infused gin in a bottle. We often make a big batch and store it refrigerated. This way it’s ready to mix whenever. This drink is super popular. Just be sure to used a good earl grey and fresh lemons. It’s a happy drink drink for sure! – Paul

Gentleman’s Tee Cocktail
A more grownup take on the Arnold Palmer, the Gentleman’s Tee highball is a refreshing blend of Jack Daniel’s Gentleman Jack Double Mellowed Tennessee Whiskey, equal parts lemonade and tea, a splash of Sprite, and slice of lemon or lime. Perfect for laidback BBQs on the patio or warm days on the links, it’s the definition of chill with just enough kick to make the experience worth your while. Whether you’re sipping it under a poolside umbrella, with a leisurely bite at your country club, or during an exciting day out at the races, the Gentleman’s Tee is the ideal compliment to your sophisticated sense of recreation.
In a mixing glass filled with ice, add Gentleman Jack, tea and lemonade. Roll the contents but do not shake them. Pour the contents into a highball glass. Add a splash of Sprite. Garnish with a lemon or lime slice.
Beach cocktail: Tybee Tea Cocktail recipe
NOLA.com | The Times-Picayune
In the summer of 2017, food writer Judy Walker collected a batch of something we all love: Cool, refreshing beach cocktail.
Here is one of those recipes from "The Beach House Cookbook" by Mary Kay Andrews ($29.99, St. Martin's Press).
Judy wrote: "When her kids were growing up, bestselling author Mary Kay Andrews spent summers on Grayton Beach, Fla. With the success of her novels, she now has beach houses on Tybee Island, off the coast of Savannah, Ga.; four hours from her home in Atlanta. This gracefully written book is full of laid-back family favorite meals, including several large-batch cocktails.
"All the dishes have just enough of a twist to keep them interesting. The Tybee Tee Cocktail, for example, starts with her friend James T.'s Secret Iced Tea, perfect in this cross between an Arnold Palmer and a Mint Julep."
1 large bunch fresh mint
2 quarts James T's Secret Iced Tea (recipe follows)
2 quarts lemonade
Lemon slices for serving
Wash mint. Coarsely chop enough (including stems) to equal 1 cup. Save remaining mint for garnish.
Combine sugar and 1 cup water in a small saucepan. Bring to a boil and cook until sugar dissolves. Remove from heat, add chopped mint, cover, and steep 1 hour. Pour through a fine sieve into a clean jar or bowl. Discard mint.
Combine iced tea and lemonade in a large pitcher, punch bowl, or glass drink dispenser. For each drink, fill an old-fashioned glass with ice, add some tea mixture, stir in 1 teaspoon mint syrup and a splash of bourbon, and garnish with reserved mint and a lemon slice.
James T Perry's Secret Iced Tea
4 cups water, divided
3 family-size tea bags
1 Earl Grey tea bag
Bring 2 cups water to a boil in a saucepan. Add tea bags, remove from heat, and steep for about 5 minutes. Pour tea into a 1-gallon pitcher, reserving tea bags in saucepan.
Meanwhile, combine sugar and 2 cups water in a separate medium saucepan over medium-high heat. Cook just until the sugar dissolves. Remove from heat. Let cool.
Add sugar syrup to pitcher. Add water to tea bags in the sauce pan to steep a bit more tea out of them. Add to tea in the pitcher, continuing process until mixture measures 1 gallon. Serve over ice, garnished with peach slices and/or mint sprigs, if desired.

Awesome way yo add flare

A must have for any Golf themed party, have used these to hold sliders together and even to hold garnish on specialty cocktails. the selection of colors is wonderful.
Poor packaging
Posted by Unknown on 21st Apr 2015
The picks arrived loose and tangled in a padded envelope. I have to now question their sanitation as they had busted through their flimsy plastic bag and were in some cases poking through the envelope itself. This meant some were damaged. The picks are as expected but they should clearly be packaged in a plastic canister or they are useless for food service which was of course my plan.
We are very sorry about your bad experience. Please contact us so we can replace this product for you. Sometimes the mail gets a little rough with our packages. We use low cost disposable packaging so that we can keep our prices affordable. Sorry for this hassle, and thank you for your feedback
Perfect compliment for golf themed foods
Posted by Janet Konig on 15th Jan 2015
These were absolutely perfect for a dish I named, "Cheese TEES", I wanted something other than a toothpick to put several cheese cubes and olives on. I tried the long golf tees but the diameter of the tee split the cheese. I found these on line and they arrived in a very timely manner and are absolutely perfect for the dish. Thanks, "Picks on Us".
