Leave some comments about the Sea Breeze

this cocktail is very popular. but i think it is a little bit sour for me.

Sea Breezes are definately my new favourite cocktail! they have overtaken bay breezes!I prefer a lemon to lime wedge, but each to their own.

It's a really nice Drink, verry good for hot summer days, easy to make aswell. . :)

For all you 'pro's'! This is a gorgeous juicy summer drink, that should not be shoke 'cause that dilutes the taste of the juices, further more its a LONGDRINK! Never heard of shaking those!! Slainte!

Great Cocktail, but your recipe needs some minor adjustments:Use Finlandia Cranberry vodka, and Pink Grapefruit juice. Squeeze the wedge of lime over the ice before putting ingredients in.

Great drink. . . . try it with Bacardi instead of vodka for a latin twist. . . .

This is a quality drink very easy to make and quite refreshing especially during those hot summer times, however your directions are wrong, I do believe u shake the vodka and grapefruit juice then layer it on top of the cranberry juice!

Use Absolut Citron instead of normal vodka and just feel your tongue curl and ooze with the satisfied feeling of refreshment.

I enjoy this drink!Refreshing easy to make!Perfect summer drink on a hot day!

I was with Jo at the time. It's ok. Prefer B52 with a beer. Hangover?Incredible!

by Matthew Tidy

Had this drink round at a friends house. Now I'm not a big drinker, but this was so refreshing and not very strong that I was able to drink loads of them and just have a subtle 'vodka moment' every time I stood up, which in my book, has to be a bonus! No headache the next day either!

About Sea Breeze

The Sea Breeze was traces its heritage back to the 1950s, when vodka’s popularity increased exponentially. According to Imbibe Magazine, only 40,000 cases of vodka were sold in 1950 in the United States, but by 1955, that number had increased to four million. Another thing that rose to popularity in the 1950s? Cranberry juice. Combine the two, add a dash of grapefruit juice and a wedge of lime, and you’ve got a refreshing cocktail. Grab your sunglasses, because this one is perfect for the summertime.

Sea Breeze: A Simple, Fruity Vodka Drink

  • Prep: 3 mins,
  • Cook: 0 mins
  • Yield: 1 serving

The Sea Breeze is part of a collection of great tasting vodka and fruit juice drinks. It's an extremely popular cocktail and incredibly simple to make. If you enjoy the Cape Codder, then break out the grapefruit because it's time to mix it up.

It really could not be easier to mix up a Sea Breeze. It requires just three ingredients -- vodka with cranberry and grapefruit juices -- and is built right in the glass. You will serve this drink over ice and can make it as tall or as short as you like.

Quite simply, the Sea Breeze is a spiked fruit punch. It's a refreshing twist to the Vodka Cranberry and a pure delight on hot summer days. After one taste, you'll quickly realize why this one has been a favorite bar drink for so long.

What You'll Need

  • 1 1/2 ounces vodka
  • 3 ounces cranberry juice
  • 1 ounce grapefruit juice
  • Garnish: grapefruit slice

How to Make It

  1. Pour the vodka and cranberry juice into a highball glass with ice cubes.
  2. Stir well.
  3. Top with the grapefruit juice.
  4. Garnish with the grapefruit slice.

More Tips for Making a Great Sea Breeze

The Vodka. The Sea Breeze is one of the few drinks in which the quality of your vodka is not going to make a significant difference. The fruit juices will mask slight impurities, so feel free to use your 'well' vodka here.

Look for a quality budget-friendly vodka that you would not mind drinking straight. The market is opening up and there are a number of good tasting and inexpensive vodkas to choose from now.

You may also want to add extra flavor to this simple drink by choosing a flavored vodka. Almost any of the fruit vodkas are a fantastic base. Strawberry, kiwi, and citrus would be among those to try first.

The Fruit Juices. Unless you have a juicer and it is cranberry season, fresh cranberry juice is not as easy as other fruits. However, in the case of the grapefruit, all you need is a manual juicer, a tiny amount of muscle power, and you have fresh juice ready to make a really great Sea Breeze.

Shake It Up. The Sea Breeze can also be shaken and strained over fresh ice. This adds a little more air to the drink that is very appealing, particularly on really hot days.

How Strong is the Sea Breeze?

In reality, you can make this drink as strong or soft as you like. It's all about how much juice you choose to pour. If, however, we follow the recipe with an 80-proof vodka, it's a relatively tame 10 percent alcohol by volume (20 proof). This is average for a fruit or soda highball and about the same as a glass of wine.

If You Like the Sea Breeze.

Among the popular vodka and fruit mixed drinks, you'll find many similarities. These can sometimes be confusing, so here's the breakdown.

  • The Greyhound is grapefruit juice only.
  • The Sea Breeze is cranberry with grapefruit juice.
  • The Madras is cranberry with orange juice.
  • The Bay Breeze is equal parts pineapple and cranberry juices.
  • The Cape Codder is cranberry juice alone.

Bay Breeze Recipe

  • 3 mins
  • Prep: 3 mins,
  • Cook: 0 mins
  • Yield: 1 Serving

The Bay Breeze is a simple mixed drink that brings a little pineapple into the popular mix of vodka and cranberry found in the Cape Codder. It is an easy, delicious, and refreshing drink that can be mixed up in a minute and is a popular recipe that every bartender should know.

Like the other 'duos' and 'trios' that mix vodka with fruit juice, the Bay Breeze is a simple highball recipe. It requires your favorite vodka and equal parts of cranberry and pineapple juices to fill the glass. Despite its simplicity, it packs a flavorful punch and is a fun everyday drink.

This drink is also sometimes called a Hawaiian Sea Breeze or a Downeaster.

What You'll Need

  • 2 ounces vodka
  • 3 ounces cranberry juice (approx.)
  • 3 ounces pineapple juice (approx.)
  • Garnish: lime wedge

How to Make It

  1. Pour the vodka into an ice ice-filled highball glass.
  2. Top with equal amounts of cranberry and pineapple juice.
  3. Garnish with a lime wedge.

More Tips for Making a Great Bay Breeze

You may want to play with flavored vodkas in this cocktail as well. Any of the fruit vodkas are going to add another dimension and experimenting with your homemade herbal or multi-flavored infusions is always a good option as well.

Options abound with drinks like the Bay Breeze. Add some sparkle by topping it with soda or a sparkling wine. Make up a pitcher and serve it for brunch or add fun ice cubes with fruit frozen inside.

Just because it is a simple drink doesn't mean that it has to be boring.

How to Make a Sea Breeze Cocktail

Sea Breeze cocktails are definitely an eighties-style drink but since I grew up in the eighties (not drinking however, just watching all the adults drink, of course) it seems fitting to bring them back to modern times. This is simply one of the easiest cocktails to make; it looks good and it tastes great and can be put together in only a couple of minutes (so when you have friends over for cocktails, keep this one in mind).

If you are a lady, get your Cyndi Lauper hair rocking. If you are a man, do NOT go with the Flock of Seagulls look. Duran Duran and other awesome eighties get-ups are, however, acceptable. You can never go wrong with an eighties party either; invite your friends over, dig into some eighties Trivial Pursuit and throw a good 80’s playlist on via Spotify and you are set.

While this drink has been around since oh, the 50’s, it didn’t become popular until the 1970’s, and of course, then the 80’s.

To make this, get your favorite cocktail glass (in this case we used out awesome mason jars) and mix in 4 ounces of Cranberry juice together with 1 ounce of Grapefruit juice and 1 1/2 ounces of Vodka. Garnish with a lime wedge and a handful of ice and you are all set. Of course, the amount of Vodka you add is entirely up to you, this amount I’d use for “light drinking”.

We use paper straws because they look better than plastic ones, just don’t leave your drink sitting too long or they tend to deteriorate (fortunately, in this household, drinks don’t sit around not getting drunk. Or is that the people in this house don’t sit around not getting drunk? I get confused.)

I hope you like it, until next time, have a happy Thirsty Thursday.
