Absolutely amazing drink with lemonade and ice (tastes like Tizer) with red bull and ice (even better) I stock up on it whenever I spot it definitely recommended I wish they sold it in bars and pub or even available more in the UK.

Love this drink!! My friends from Greece introduced it to me last week!OMG totally gutted you can't buy it in the UK! I will be sure to bring a stock of it back home with me when I go back in the summer! Drank it straight over some ice and a slice of orange. Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm heaven.

The best drink ever! This & redbull is the best you can not beat it, full glass of ice half redbull half Ursus Roter. THE BEST!

OMG, just found out about this website. I have been craving this for 3 yrs :-) I first tasted this when I worked in Zante and I love it. Oh and Ursus and red bull is lush red & red all the way.

Love love love this stuff. First tried it back in 2001 in Kardamena, Kos and me and my mates have been hooked ever since! I can't believe that no one has mentioned to try this with red bull!! You have got to try it! Me and my mates have a 'red vodka night' once a month now.

Worked in Malia for the summer a couple of years ago, used to go through a bottle of this stuff a night, straight of course, with a bit of ice) the most amazing drink ever. and no hangovers!

I was lucky enough to try this for the first time last Christmas. I am not usually a fan of sweet tasting spirits however Ursus Roter is the exception. I instantly fell in love with this stuff. This drink is so smooth and it seemed to fit in with whole Christmas cosiness thing however I have been drinking Roter over most of the Summer too. You can really taste those sloe berries which then in turn sit upon a honey base. Lovely.

I discovered this drink in a beach bar on a Greek island. I love this stuff and I would recomend everyone to taste this as it is just amazing!!

I too have now experienced the world of Zante/tsilivi and this brillient drink. Is great by the beach to chill, or to get u drunk with shots it works very well. I normally like to sit and enjoy it though.

I love this stuff. I tried it last year when some friends brought it over from Zante. got through half a bottle in a few hours its just so nice. in shots or with ice. not tried it with fruit juice yet but Im told its good too.

I am so glad you got this back in. You should have emailed me to let me know. Ursus Roter reminds me of hot summers spent in Cyprus having a fabulous time. I just drink it neat over ice with a slice of lime. Every drinks cabinet should have at least one bottle!

I am SO glad that this has started to be sold in the UK again-and just in time for Christmas as well-bonus!! This stuff is so nice and I used to drink way too much of it while repping in Zante for two summers in 2002 and 2003. I brought 10 bottles home when i returned in November of both years but they didn't even see new year!! I then had to rely on friends bringing me back the odd bottle here and there when they went on holiday to Greece! Hooray for TheDrinkShop.com.

Used to drink Red Vodka by the bottle load when working in Kos and got many tourists onto the awesome taste of it. Can't wait to polish off another bottle!!

I'm not a big fan of vodka but this drink is delicious. Discovered a few years ago when I worked a summer season in Rhodes, Greece. Great with lemonade. If anyone knows where to buy it in UK (apart from web) please let me know!

This is a fantastic drink - drunk loads of it in Malia. Please, please, please can someone start selling this in the uk!!

Please please please get some, its the best drink in the world! i discovered it in corfu and pray that some bright spark will supply to the uk.

Just got back from zante-plenty of ursus drank and plenty brought back with us please when can we buy over here - we have to wait till after christmas for more!

Ursus was introduced to my husband and I while on our honeymoon in Greece and we are trying to find somewhere to buy it whether it's on the net or a Canadian store. Does anybody know where we could buy it? Thanks Georgia & Peter Ed: We are working on it here. Still! Could be with us within weeks - Xmas maybe!

Oh like many others can't BELIEVE we can't get this drink in the UK. My partner claimed he didn't drink until he drunk this stuff now we're both addicted and very gutted as we only brought one bottle back from greece with us. It is so lovely to sip over ice, and I don't like vodka as it gives me headaches but this stuff doesn't give me any headaches, must be the berries!! Please get some on the site soon. as my partner was put off from going back to greece after a 12hr flight delay on the way home!!

Ursus is just the best. a friend of ours just come back from Rhodes so our supply is replenished, for a few days at least, we're off to Grecce in October so will get more yamas.

We found Ursus 3 years ago while in Skiathos and we can't get enough of it. All our friends are asked to bring us supplies if they visit Greece or any of the islands. Everyone we know that tastes it, loves it. 5 weeks to go..Crete here we come!

Ursus Sloe berry is FANTASTIC I have been looking for it in this country every time I run out from my supply from Greece. I got back from Greece yesterday and have brought back 6 big bottles of the stuff.

This is a excellent drink really refreshing! On it's own over ICE or mixed with a little bit of lemon fanta! Great drink! Anyone know why this is not available in the UK yet? Ed: Brand owners Diageo have chosen not to market this product in th UK - For now - it will be back on the site soon!

This has been a favorite drink of mine for years overseas and I go crazy every time i run out. We need to get this drink in the USA.

Have you tried Amsterdam? - we first found Ursus sloe berry vodka in Dam a few years back, now we stock up every time we fly out there! It can be found in the downstairs alcohol section in the supemarkets and at the duty free shop at Schipol airport, its well worth the air fare.

Found Ursus Vodka with Sloe berries in a small shop in Barcelona - in Las Ramblas - a side street off the main Ramblas walking street. Don't remember the name of the shop or the street, but off to the left towards one of the churches about a third of the way down to the south from the Metro station Catalunya.

i'm gutted! only bought one bottle back from greece last week and have nearly finished it. thought i'd be able to get it here. nicest drink i've tasted for a long time.

This is the best stuff ever. I always stock up when i go to Greece & wish it was avalible over here 'cos I've ran out again. I think it's best served neat but chill the whole bottle first.

I adore this drink where can I get it..i need it . I bought 6 litres in Greece in June and im now out of it .. Ed - At this time, I hope you have another trip there soon !

Absolutly gorgeous drink, but its impossible to find in the u.k, this drink is huge in Greece. Usually drank straight (the best way) or mixed with red bull or champagne. Wish it was sold here. Ed - Hey Chaz. We know! It's very frustrating when a product is no longer made available by the brand owner in a country where its popularity did much for TheDrinkShop.com. Hey Ho - Thanks for the review! Try Ursus with crushed ice, a muddled half lime and add a measure or UR.

Best over ice with a half a slice of orange try it . Its a tast sensation.

Red Roosters

Make up several pitchers of this not-too-sweet beverage, cover them, and put in the fridge before the party starts. Or try our freeze-ahead Slushy Red Roosters, and ask a guest to tend the blender.

Ingredients

  • 4 cups cranberry juice cocktail
  • 3 cups orange juice
  • 2 cups vodka
  • Garnishes: fresh cranberries, lemon slices

How to Make It

Stir together first 3 ingredients in a large pitcher. Serve over ice. Garnish, if desired.

Slushy Red Roosters: Substitute 1 (12-oz.) can frozen orange juice concentrate, thawed, for 3 cups orange juice. Stir together cranberry juice cocktail, orange juice concentrate, vodka, and 4 1/2 cups water. Place 1 (1-gal.) zip-top plastic freezer bag inside another 1-gal. zip-top plastic freezer bag. Pour about 4 cups cranberry mixture into inside bag. Seal both bags. Repeat procedure with remaining cranberry mixture. (Double bagging is a precaution to avoid spills.) Freeze bags 24 hours. Remove bags from freezer; let stand 5 minutes. Process cranberry mixture, 1 bag at a time, in a blender or food processor until desired consistency. Pour into glasses. Serve immediately. Makes 3 qt. Prep: 10 min., Freeze: 24 hr., Stand: 5 min.

A classy speak-easy that is not your usual cocktail bar! You easily walk past by it if you don't know the exact address. That said: there is a good reason for this secretiveness:

2) The drinks are made with a great accuracy by masters of their art

3) It's for connaisseurs who worship good drinks

Decent speakeasy style bar, for those who haven't been to many. Not enough space to hang up coats, drinks were not okay, music wasn't too loud, not too expensive. Overall it's fine, maybe I'm just spoiled from Chicago.

I have been to a number of bars in Frankfurt but the Rote Bar stands out entirely. They really know this business.

We were a group of 5 about a week ago who were refused access because the maximum number of people allowed to enter simultaneously was 4. (How ridiculous of a system is that?) The problem was not this but the way the gentleman at the door communicated the bar rules. Disappointing manner the kind of which makes you choose the next best bar in town immediately. We left the place after waiting outside for 15 minutes as none of us felt like it anymore. Now get the twist: some friends got there 5 minutes before and were already inside waiting for us. I understand that ours was not the first experience with a cocky and overly self-important staff at this venue. Red Bar: not impressed.

Small bar with a special flair. They have a doormen and staff that is dressed in black and knows their trade. So be aware that you won't get in with jeans or short trousers or anything casual looking. Yet, they have great cocktails and if you are up for a fancy evening this might be the place you are looking for.

Unique atmosphere and service, great cocktails, professional, emotionless staff in crisp black and white uniforms, a great spot to drink into the small hours in Lynchian limbo

All About Vermouth

A key ingredient in cocktail greats such as the Martini and the Manhattan, vermouth is a must-have for any well-stocked home bar.

Taking its name from the German word "Wermut," meaning wormwood, vermouth is an aromatic fortified wine flavored with herbs, roots, bark, flowers and other botanicals. It comes in two basic styles: sweet and dry, each with different cocktail uses.

  • Sweet Vermouth (aka Italian vermouth, red vermouth, vermouth rosso) The earliest commercial vermouths came out of late 18th Century Italy (Martini & Rossi was a famous maker of the time who's still a giant in the market today), and for that reason any sweet, red vermouth made in this tradition now (regardless of its country of origin) is known as "Italian vermouth."

Cocktail Uses: Manhattans, Rob Roys, Negronis, Bronxes, Americanos, and others

  • Dry Vermouth (aka French vermouth, white vermouth, vermouth secco) In the early 19th Century, French winemaker, Joseph Noilly, arrived on the scene with his own style of vermouth, which was pale in color and much drier. Noilly Prat is still a leading maker of this style of aromatic fortified wine, which is still referred to as "French vermouth" regardless of where it was made.

Of course, vermouth isn't just for mixing. Both sweet and dry vermouth can be enjoyed on their own over ice as an aperitif. (A mixture of half dry, half sweet is especially good.) A twist or slice of lemon or orange makes a nice addition to the mix.

Unlike the sturdier, higher-proof spirits in your home bar, vermouth has a limited shelf life. Because its alcohol content is relatively low (18 percent), vermouth will begin to oxidize once it's been exposed to air, and its flavor will go off over time. To keep this aromatic fortified wine tasting its very best, store opened bottles in the fridge for no longer than a month or two. (Confession: we've been known to keep vermouth considerably longer than this, but have since resolved to pass over the econo-sized bottles at the liquor store and reach for the 375ml minis instead.)

Wet or Dry Martinis: Just How Much Vermouth Should You Pour?

When people talk about "wet" or "dry" Martinis, they're referring to the amount of vermouth added to the mix. And this amount has long been the subject of barroom debate.

Early Martinis were definitely on the wetter side (recipes from the 1900s call for equal parts vermouth and gin!).

On the other end of the spectrum, Winston Churchill preferred his drinks considerably drier. The politician was famously said to have made his Martinis by pouring some gin into a cocktail pitcher and "glancing briefly at a bottle of vermouth" across the room.

Bottom line? It's all a matter of taste.

    Alter Roter Löwe Rein

    Richardstraße 31
    12043, Berlin
    Tuesday - Sunday: 6 p.m. - 'till

If you’re looking for drinks in Neukölln, but don’t have the stamina to contend with the hipper-than-thou Weserstraße set, you could do worse than this former old-man pub turned funky watering hole hidden in the Rixdorf neighborhood. Although the unplastered walls and rickety wooden furniture give Löwe Rein an aesthetic kinship with many bars in the neighborhood, the crowd is generally more relaxed, the music more judiciously selected and the drinks slightly more interesting. The place is also larger than it looks from the outside, so if you can’t find space in the main room, be sure to check out some of the cosier rooms in the back. The mood is always lively without being oppressively busy, making Löwe Rein is a good place to get your night started, or to keep it going.
