Wir waren 4 Leute da mit einem Groupon Gutschein. Service war freundlich und aufmerksam und das Essen gut. Cocktails kostet 4 Euro und die waren überraschend gut! Kommen gern wieder.

Mir gefällt es dort immer wieder gut. Das einzig störende ist, dass es oft sehr eng und laut im Innenbereich ist.

Das Pune wusste anscheinend nichts von meiner online Reservierung, da mein bestellter Kinderstuhl an jemand anderem weitergegeben wurde. Zumal ein Kinderstuhl für ein Restaurant zu wenig ist.

Essen absolut unterste Schublade. Eine portion hähnchen trocken, andere roh. Geschmacklos, hat nichts mit indisch zu tun.

Seit dem ich und meine Freunde das Pune gefunden und kennen gelernt haben, gehe wir regelmäßig dort essen und trinken. Z.B. die Deutschlandspiele von der WM haben wir im Pune mitverfolgt.

Der Service ist einfach toll und das Essen ist der Hammer. Ich liebe es dort zu essen.

Und die Cocktails sind keine Säfte, denn im Pune wird auch wirklich Alkohol in den alkoholischen Cocktails gegeben.

Habe schon öfters indisch in Berlin gegessen; das "Pune" ist besser als der Durchschnitt. Die Platten für zwei (und mehr) sind jedoch vergleichsweise teuer. Die abgegriffenen Speisekarten sollten mal erneuert werden.

Authentisches indisches Essen, duftet sehr gut und ist sehr lecker. Schöne Auswahl an typischen Gerichten. Sehr nettes Personal.

Cocktail o.K.; Essen kaum differ. gewürzt (bes.Spinat), lediglich das lamm war gut; Nachspeise: Statt Früchte nur Apfelstücke in süßer Soße: Bedienung ohne pers. Ansprache und Kontakt. Einrichtung eher Kneipe

Es ist gut gelegen, nettes und freundliches Team, schneller und sehr aufmerksamer Service.

Das Essen war wirklich ausgezeichnet. Es kam schnell und war warm. Wer gerne indisch ist, sollte sich das auf gar keinen Fall entgehen lassen!:)

Soll mal einer sagen, in Moabit sitzen sie auf dem Trockenen. Versteckt in einer Seitenstraße mixen die Jungs vom George R mit ihren Shakern Großartiges um die Wette. Klar bekommst du hier auch Draft Beer und diverse Schnäpse wie Genever. Für uns muss es hier aber eigentlich immer ein Cocktail von der wechselnden Karte sein. Nie genug hat man zum Beispiel vom Gimlet – ein fast vergessener Klassiker mit Gin und Lime Juice. Den hat George Remus bestimmt auch gern getrunken. Namenspate für die Bar ist der legendäre Schwarzhändler aus Amerika, der zur Prohibition mit illegal gebranntem Schnaps ein Vermögen machte.

Es war ein wirklich feines Essen und ich finde den Preis für das Menü absolut gerechtfertigt. Ein sehr freundliche aber nicht aufdringliche Bedienung und eine angenehm entspannte Atmosphäre. Ich kann es nur jedem empfehlen! Der einzige Nachteil ist die Akustik, denn der Raum hallt und verstärkt die Gespräche. Aber wir konnten uns dennoch recht gut am Tisch unterhalten! Also wir kommen auf jeden Fall wieder. ;-)

Bester Italiener der Stadt. Fantastische kleine Gerichte aus Süditalien in einem ultra stylischen Ambiente serviert von entspannten und freundlichen Kellnern. Inhabergeführt.

Das Essen war wieder sehr gut. Wegen der Hitze war ein Tisch draußen für uns gedeckt. Das war gut, obwohl gerade das Ambiente drinnen immer sehr reizvoll war und es an der Straße etwas laut war.

Es fehlte auch die sehr kompetente Beratung des neapolitanischen Geschäftsführers, obwohl die Bedienung sich auch sehr viel Mühe und Zeit für Beratung genommen hat.

Die Freunde, die wir erstmalig zum Karloff mitgenommen hatten, waren auch sehr zufrieden.

Offene Küche, beindruckender Koch, unglaublich sympatische Kellnerin, die einen sehr guten Wein empfohlen hat! Kommen auf jeden Fall wieder!

Great contemporary southern Italian restaurant.

Schönes Lokal mit netter Bar direkt nebenan, die dazugehört. Das Essen war okay, ich hatte aber mehr erwartet. Wir wurden nach ca 1,5 Stunden nach der Hauptspeise gefragt, ob wir noch etwas wollen. Sonst würden schon die nächsten Gäste auf unseren Tisch warten. Das war dann doch atmosphärisch ein Abturner. Alles in allem okay, aber eher nicht nochmal.

Es hat uns sehr gefallen. Das Essen und der Wein waren sehr gut, wunderbare Vorstellung der Essenszubereitung. Sehr empfehlenswert.

Der Abend im Karloff war einfach großartig und voller Vielfalt. Super Service, sehr kompetente Beratung und Empfehlungen für jeden Gang, phantastisches Essen, vollmundige Getränke. Eine wahre Entdeckung, die ich jeder/jedem nur wärmstens ans Herz legen kann.

Im Karloff wurden wir sehr liebevoll umsorgt. Der empfohlene Wein war richtig lecker. Das Essen hat uns auch gut geschmeckt, auch wenn ich sagen würde, dass ein Stück Bruschetta mit Tomate nicht wirklich als eigener Gang zählen sollte. Der Preis von 19 Euro für das Menu ist in Ordnung, die Portionen sahen zwar klein aus, wie von einigen Besuchern bereits dargestellt, waren allerdings sehr üppig, wir waren ziemlich satt. Ich finde es schade, dass kein Dessert zum Menu gehört, dieses muss dann noch extra geordert werden. Kaffee schlägt mit 5 Euro zu Buche. Zusammengefasst würde ich sagen, das Karloff ist stylish, ganz lecker, etwas neues, sollte aber an seiner Preispolitik arbeiten, wenn es sich halten will.

Dieses "Lokalino" könnte tatsächlich zu einem unserer Lieblingsrestaurants in Berlin werden! Wunderbare Sfizi, das heißt kleine Portionen, die gute Laune machen, dazu eine kompetent-charmante Beratung von Chef Achille Farese; alles hat ganz hervorragend geschmeckt, von den Vesuv-Tomaten über die herrliche Fenchelsuppe bis zum gedämpften und dann wie ein Rollmops servierten Wolfsbarsch. Alles Gute zum Geburtstag in Berlin

I don’t suppose people normally post about past trips on a travel blog, but how else should one start to populate a site when their next trip is yet to come? So, this is how you came to be reading about a trip that took place a little over six months ago.

Mr Drury was around 45 years old when I asked what he’d like to do for his 50th birthday, which gave me approximately 5 years to cope with his response of “I’d like a party in Berlin”. I spent 4 years and 3 months trying to persuade him to have a German themed party in London and around 9 months frantically planning a party in Berlin.

A 50th birthday party is not at all like a wedding. At this stage in your life you are only obliged to invite your actual friends – the people that you want to spend time with. The countless relatives you only see once a year and the people from work you don’t want to offend, are all out, so the guest list was a pretty easy exercise. A long weekend in Berlin also required early invitation (about 7 months prior, as a matter of fact) so I spent hours trawling the internet for German themed invitations and gave up when I saw that for the price, we may as well have been having a wedding. This brought about my first positive experience of social media when a good old Facebook appeal to friends came up trumps.

How do you get 60 people to Berlin?

We had about 60 positive replies, which totally blew out of the water Mr Drury’s assertion that he has no friends. 36 from the UK, 20 from Germany, 2 Norwegians and 2 Aussies. A group booking on Easyjet from Luton probably wasn’t going to work. What to do? In this internet age, I asked everyone to arrange their own flights and it worked brilliantly. Flights from an airport to suit, at a price to suit and at times to suit, with very little effort from me. And besides the Aussies, who no doubt spent a small fortune, everyone got there for under £100. We personally paid £88.30 each, flying on British Airways from Heathrow’s rather lovely Terminal 5 into Berlin’s (now rather dated) Tegel airport, taking full advantage of low early prices and BA’s Hand Baggage Only fare.

Our preference for East Berlin, coupled with a need to satisfy the budgets and desires of all of our guests led me to the H2 Hotel in Alexanderplatz which ticked most, if not all, of our boxes. This hotel seemed to be the budget member of the Ramada family and is administrated by the same team, so one enquiry will likely lead to a quote for both hotels. After quite a lot of pressing I ended up with a rate in Euros of the equivalent of £66.08 per double room per night, provided I paid in advance. It’s worth a note that their initial group rate offering was no better (and in fact worse) than internet specials widely available at the time, so research and negotiating is essential, with English well spoken by the H2/Ramada team.

The hotel was excellent value and a great choice for a diverse group. An easy walk from Alexanderplatz Bahnhof (with direct links to both Tegel and Schoenefeld airports), standard and clean modern rooms, with no real frills. Buffet continental breakfast was served daily and included in the £66.08 bargain, but it was a truly chaotic affair for a hotel which appeared to be nearing capacity. My parents looked genuinely horrified at the prospect of having to share their breakfast table to get seated and endure a 5 minute queue for a self served coffee. But at that price, even they didn’t quibble.

So what do you do with such a group on a Friday night in October, which is for many their first ever night in Berlin? You go to the Hofbrauhaus of course!

With the added bonus of it being next door but one to the H2 hotel, we sat down at our reserved long benches, ordered steins of beer and hearty German food, listened with amusement to the oompah band, chuckled a little at the lederhosen and, slowly but surely, began to join in. By the end of the night, all inhibitions smothered in beer, even the most reserved were attempting the language and flinging one another round on the dancefloor. The revolving door back into the hotel presented a far greater challenge than getting a group of English, German, Norwegian and Australian friends to mix, it seemed.

Which roughly translates to ‘The Bar in the Water Tower’, was the venue for the actual party on Saturday night. Feeling slightly green from the previous night’s excesses, a 20 minute taxi ride north east of Alexanderplatz took us to the residential district of Hohenschönhausen and the Bar im Wasserturm, a completely unique venue for a party and ideal for a group our size.

The beautiful terrace overlooking the lake was lost on us on a dark October evening, but the flaming braziers and fluffy blankets meant as many people stayed outside as in. The utterly cool interior and more-some cocktails were defiant of the price; and allowing our German friends to simply set up their own barbecue and serve food bought at the market is an alien concept to most London party venues.

With Aperol Spritz as the drink of choice, all green edges were soon smudged away and being nutritionally satisfied with currywurst and birthday cake. A more sophisticated night than the previous, for which we were all thankful, as no one could have done that twice.

This amazing cocktail bar has been named the best bar in Amsterdam at least once. And deservedly so! It has beautiful decor but even more importantly it has delicious cocktails and friendly, attentive staff.

Be sure to make a reservation, especially for weekend evenings. Sit at the bar, at one of the tall tables near the bar or best of all, relax upstairs in the charming lounge area.

Rapenburg 18, Amsterdam

A secret spot hidden behind a non-descript entry, Door 74 is the perfect place for a clandestine rendezvous. In order to discover the street address and gain entry, patrons must call a secret phone number. Reservations are required but can only be secured by calling that same day. Though the secret speakeasy thing might seem a little silly, we love Door 74 and wouldn’t change a thing.

In the pleasantly dark ambiance it is easy to lose track of time and spend many hours in this relaxing space. Upon entry the bartender takes your coat and leads you to your table. Water and snacks appear along with the drink menu. Order something from the list of creative cocktails or just tell the bartender what flavors you enjoy and they will whip up a custom concoction.

The drinks are very tasty and creative but what we like best about Door 74 is the service. Everyone is very friendly, and they make sure your water glass and snack bowls are always full. I daresay we felt quite at home! Check it out, if you are lucky enough to find out that secret phone number!

TALES & SPIRITS

Hidden away on a quiet little alley off the Singel canal, Tales & Spirits tempts the cocktail lover to stop and stay awhile in their elegant bar.

The interior features dark wood and glass chandeliers, and is the perfect setting to relax with an expertly crafted cocktail in hand and swap stories with your companions. Unlike most cocktail bars in Amsterdam, T&S also serves food! Our friends always order the fried chicken.

Cocktails here are dangerously delicious, we love the Fallen Lady, a raspberry chocolate concoction that goes down super smooth. But beware, the headache the next day after drinking four of them is not so smooth!

BAR OLDENHOF

If you want to go have some cocktails with your manly man friends, we’d heartily recommend Bar Oldenhof. The clubby interior is cozy chic with leather chairs and dim lighting with a mysterious neon green glow. Oldenhof offers expertly crafted cocktails as well as microbrews, whisky and other spirits. But it’s not just for the guys, ladies love Oldenhof too. We are also big fans of the sunny yellow exterior.

Open until 3am on the weekends, Bar Oldenhof could be your first or last stop of the night. We’d recommend starting out here on the earlier side as the cocktails are delicious and mighty strong and you want to be able to appreciate the quality.

We like that Bar Oldenhof gives you nutty nibbles to enjoy with your drinks. A welcome touch to hopefully avoid that hangover the next day.

Elandsgracht 84, Amsterdam

VESPER BAR

An excellent choice for a celebratory night out, Vesper is located on a charming corner in the Jordaan neighborhood. Their seasonal cocktail list changes regularly but the drinks are consistently delicious.

Our favorite Vesper libation is the popular “Porn Star Martini”, a frothy passionfuit concoction with a champagne chaser. You can never go wrong with passionfruit or champagne in our opinion, even if it is embarrassing to order this hilariously titled drink.

We’d recommend Vesper as the perfect spot for a pre- or post- dinner drink. The compact space can get busy on weekend nights, so it might be best to visit with a smaller group.

Vinkenstraat 57, Amsterdam

Located behind an unmarked door on the Geldersekade, Porem is dark and cozy and serves classic cocktails. The focus is on the cool ambiance and delicious drinks. Are you hungry? Order some dim sum or sushi to go along with your cocktails.

Lotti’s is the restaurant and bar at The Hoxton hotel. Their signature cocktails are fabulous and they can also make classics and creative cocktails just for you. Ask Max for the Lotti’s 255.

Herengracht 255, Amsterdam

Tastefully decorated with cozy seating areas, the Pulitzer Hotel bar makes a mean cocktail. Especially awesome on a rainy or cold day, hold a cocktail in hand while you sit on a velvet chair and gaze out the window on the canals.

Not just a super cool barber shop, Cut Throat now has a cocktail bar and restaurant in a side area of the Beurs van Berlage. What a setting! Sip your cocktail while watching sexy bearded and tattooed men trimming the beards of other bearded and tattooed men. Or if that is not your cup of pimm’s, get a haircut yourself (men only). Cut Throat has an array of creative cocktails and don’t miss the food! Tasty tacos, hot wings and chicken and waffles are on the menu. Brunch too!

Beurs 5, Amsterdam

JD William’s is a terrific whisky bar in the heart of the city in the 9 straatjes. With lots of nice whiskys and whisky cocktails plus beer on the menu, there is a lot to like. They serve fusion food too so you can put something in your tummy to soak up the whisky.

Prinsenstraat 5, Amsterdam

A restaurant and cocktail lounge on the Reguliersdwarsstraat, Lion Noir is owned by the same group that operates popular spots BoCinq and Jimmy Woo. The ambiance in the lounge is definitely different than most Amsterdam hotspots, with what they call a “unique, warm and home-like atmosphere”. You’ll see hanging plants, intriguing paintings, and taxidermy animals around the room which is dimly lit to promote an intimate environment. It all combines to create an elegant creepy-curio-chic vibe.

The cocktail list has all kinds of yummy concoctions including popular drink favorites like the bellini, margarita and mojito. We tried the Dutch Garden which combines cucumber and elderflower with genever for a refreshing treat. The food menu also looks delicious and there is a lovely dining room upstairs for dinner before or after your drinks.

Cocktails with a view! The W is known for their chic interiors and stylish guests. It goes without saying you’ll find that at the upstairs bar in Amsterdam as well. The balconies have views on Dam Square and what’s more there is even a swimming pool!

Sleek modern Feijoa was the place to see and be seen for a while. The cocktails are tasty and the decor is cool and modern. We’d recommend Feijoa if you are with a mixed group of cocktail sippers and regular beer drinkers as it is a bit less of a dedicated cocktail spot.

In case you were wondering how to pronounce Feijoa, we don’t have a clue! Supposedly it is a New Zealand fruit… Try saying “fey-joe-ah”? It seems to work for us.

Modern meets rustic at this lounge on the Prinsengracht that is popular with groups. They recently redesigned the interior and changed up the menu so go check it out!

The cocktails are smooth and lovely and pair perfectly with fusion bites like spicy peruvian tuna and green tea smoked lamb skewers. Thursday through Saturday are the nights for Henry’s Bar in Oost. The sister to Bar Bukowski, Henry’s has a fun cocktail menu with inspiring quotes from Mr. Henry Charles Bukowski like “I don’t like jail, they’ve got the wrong kind of bars in there.” The menu even includes cocktails to be shared with groups of 2 to 4 people. Oosterpark 10, Amsterdam

A modern trendy restaurant, bar and lounge in the swanky art’otel, 5&33 has a nice selection of cocktails to enjoy before or after your meal. Or just stop in for a drink! Hidden in the back of The Butcher burger joint in de Pijp is a secret cocktail bar! Reserve a table and they’ll tell you the latest password. Reportedly it is always some kind of meat, but your guess is as good as ours. Food is also available, and what goes better with a classic cocktail than a juicy burger and fries? Don’t miss the new Butcher Social Club at the A’dam Tower in Noord as well.

Albert Cuypstraat 129, Amsterdam

Are you a fan of mezcal? Then make your way to Salmuera for dinner and be sure to try a cocktail or two. This hotspot specializes in Latin American cuisine and their cocktails take advantage of the liquors of the region. While we enjoyed the cocktails from the menu, we were extra impressed with the a sweet and tart lemon meringue cocktail creation. Yum!
