Pour each liquor into a seperate shot glass. Take down each shot in quick succession.

Pour ingredients into a shot glass in the following order; aftershock, gold rush, rumple minze. Serve.

In shot glass, mix 1 part Gold with 1 part Rump, add a splash of Jager over the top. Manly shot with a tasty surprise.

Place the liquors in seperate shot glasses. This is a series of shots; first shoot the Rumple Minze, then Jн¤germeister, then Goldschlн¤ger. Do them fast, and they are very smooth. Afterwards, you will initially just taste the cinnamon of the Goldschlн¤ger, but then the Rumple Minze's peppermint flavor seems to make a return, and it tastes like you just ate a mint.

Stir together Milk and Schnapps, pour into highball glass, and serve.

Fill a shot glass equally in parts with Rumple Minze, Jн¤germeister, and Goldschlager.

Chill ingredients before use. Pour rumple minze into a shot glass and add jagermeister. Serve.

Pour both ingredients in equal parts into a shot glass, stir and serve.

Float goldschlager on top of rumple minze and enjoy.

Pour ingredients in equal parts into a shot glass and serve.

Mix rumple minze and jagermeister in an iced shaker and strain into a shot glass.

Shake ingredients together with ice in a cocktail shaker. Strain into a shot glass, and serve.

Half-fill a chilled shot glass with rumple minze, and top with black sambuca.

Pour rumple minze into a shot glass, add firewater, and serve.

Carefully layer or float schnapps on top of rumple minze in a shot glass.

Pour aftershock into a shot glass. Add rumple minze, and serve.

Rumple Minze Holiday Cocktails

We’re back with another installment of our holiday cocktail series! This time featuring the peppermint liquor Rumple Minze, per the suggestion of one of my favorite area bartenders. After all, there’s little better than a boozy beverage to get you through the long, cold winter nights, right?!

This week’s cocktail inspiration comes from the fantastic John L Mayer (not to be confused with the singer) from Local 149 in South Boston. He’s the bar manager at the popular neighborhood spot, and is seriously one of the most genuine, enthusiastic, and awesome guys I’ve ever encountered behind the bar. When we had the idea for this cocktail series, I knew I had to get his input.

He immediately suggested a series of super-simple cocktail “recipes” using the Rumple Minze – his “guilty pleasure.” The boozy peppermint liquor is the perfect addition to any minty holiday cocktail recipes. As John put it, Rumple Minze is “Peppermint and boozy enough to help deal with family!” All 3 variations used an even mix of Rumple Minze with other spirits – bourbon, anejo tequila, and Fernet Branca.

For John’s first cocktail, the “Snowshoe,” you mix 1.5oz each of bourbon (he recommends Eagle Rare) and Rumple Minze. He recommends this drink be served over crushed ice with a big mint sprig and straw. Pictured above and to the right, we served it in a new Alessi Orseggi Whiskey glass.

For his tequila variation, “Snow Falling on Jalisco,” you simply substitute añejo tequila for bourbon (pictured below, to the left). And last but not least, for the favorite Local 149 variation – “Black Santa” – you use equal parts Rumple Minze and Fernet Branca (not pictured here).

We gladly whipped these up for our photo shoot – and made sure to give them a try, as well. I hadn’t previously tried Rumple Minze, but I can safely say is is extremely minty and deceivingly strong. It’s slightly syrupy and very sweet, which masks the boozyness of these cocktails, making them a rather potent libation. But, if you’re a mint fan, I encourage you to give them a try!

Do you have a favorite holiday libation?

From Wikipedia Edit

Rumple Minze is a German-style liqueur brand, best known for their peppermint schnapps. The brand is owned by the alcoholic beverage holding company Diageo, based in London.

The peppermint liqueur is made by the Scharlachberg Distillery in Bingen, Germany. It has a strong candy-cane taste, and it has a high alcohol content at 50% alcohol by volume, (100 proof), compared to the 40% (or 80 proof) of most liquors. It is commonly served chilled, straight up, without a lime (in some cases as a digestif) or it can also be mixed to form various cocktails.

Rumple Minze was rated a 95 (out of a possible 100) by the Beverage Tasting Institute. The top market for this product is the United States. The success of their peppermint schnapps has led Rumple Minze to release two new flavors which include a berry flavored liqueur and a lime flavored liqueur, both of which are 100 proof.

The logo on the front of the bottle is a picture of a double-headed golden eagle. This symbol is a reference to the German coat of arms.

      All About Peppermint Schnapps

Peppermint schnapps is a clear, mint-flavored distilled spirit that is often used in winter cocktails. It is less sweet and typically contains more alcohol than crème de menthe.

There are many brands that produce peppermint schnapps and the quality, price, and production can vary quite a bit. Typically, schnapps uses a neutral grain alcohol and peppermint leaves and it can be anywhere from 15-50% alcohol/volume (30-100 proof).

Peppermint Schnapps Cocktails and Mixed Drinks

Peppermint schnapps can be drunk straight, but is best chilled and, if you're going to do this, it is recommended to choose a smoother schnapps that costs a little more than the average bottle. It is also a favorite ingredient in a variety of cocktails, most commonly paired with chocolate, and as a snappy liqueur for some of the most potent shooters.

The following was provided by the great folks over at WineX Magazine

The tastiest way to get shot by a German

Those wonderful folks who brought us WW I and its blockbuster sequel have also given us many of our favorite drinks, including some of the finest beers on the planet, along with a wide array of liqueurs and schnapps. The kingpin of German schnapps is Rumpleminze, a popular peppermint concoction that's generally dished out in a chilled shot glass.

In Germany, drinking protocol generally mandates (we hesitate to say "dictates") that schnapps is served as an after-dinner drink -- a leisurely post-prandial digestive. Americans, however, have never quite adopted the German habits of starting major international conflicts for world hegemony or sipping schnapps casually after a meal. From chilled shot glasses, schnapps is most often tossed back by younger drinkers, who get a quick blast of Rumple's 100 proof peppermint-blitzkrieg which is just as refreshing on the breath as mouthwash -- and much more intoxicating. Since the word schnapps is actually derived from the German word for "gulp" or "mouthful," this may actually be a more appropriate way to consume it.

In its most typical incantation, schnapps is the generic term for a clear brandy distilled from fermented fruit, like peach, apple or pear. But a peppermint schnapps is really an herbal liqueur dominated, of course, by peppermint, with natural peppermint flavorings and added sugar.

Most liqueurs date back many centuries to when they were ostensibly consumed for their curative, medicinal qualities. Today, you don't need to delude yourself so. People drink liqueurs because they taste good, they go down easy and they're a little splash of something different. In the 1980s, liqueurs, shooters and various schnapps flavors came into their own, and an eclectic variety was stacked upon most bar shelves. And if you stack it on your bar shelf, they will drink it. Particularly if it's tasty and backed up by a multi-million dollar advertising budget. Rumple is both.

A new, rather unexplored market segment, such as schnapps shooters, relies heavily on successful marketing. Rumple has been very aggressive at appealing to younger drinkers by using hot-looking Teutonic women astride a polar bear (which naturally made young male bar patrons very thirsty and some lucky polar bears very happy). Today, Rumple is firmly entrenched as one of the hottest and most popular brands in the shooters market, and you're likely to spy the clear liqueur with the black label at your local watering hole.

For all its 100-proof strength, Rumple actually goes down remarkably smoothly, and its bracing minty freshness really does make you feel as if you've just brushed your teeth. It may actually inspire confidence when you feel brazen (or drunk) enough to approach that certain someone across the bar. So if you're seeking a cool shooter to make your night a bit hotter, Rumple is a good, user-friendly introductory tipple to toss back.

Even though the Cold War is over, it can be very fulfilling to spy on a German. When the opportunity arises, think of investigating Rumple as your civic duty. You owe it to your country.
