Bananen cocktail
Bols Banana
What is Bols Banana
Bols Banana is one of the best-selling banana liqueurs with the colour of real sun-ripened bananas.
Its taste is that of bananas enhanced by a touch of soft vanilla and a hint of almonds. Because Bols Banana uses high quality banana flavour and is based on a rum distillate, it is extremely mixable and the only real choice for professional bartenders, especially those making tropical drinks.
Banana drinks led the frozen drinks revolution of the 1970s and 1980s, and Bols Banana is tremendously popular in frozen Daiquiris, Rum Runners, Banana Banshees and many more. Bols Banana works especially well in drinks containing juices, cream or ice-cream.

DIY Banana Liqueur Recipe
Homemade banana liqueur will show you that, when it comes to tropical drinks, the simple banana can taste just as exotic as the more elusive coconut and pineapple.
Notes: Just-ripened bananas will give the best result, though a slightly overripe banana will also work. Avoid green bananas or bananas that are already brown inside. The character of rum gives depth to this liqueur, but you could also use vodka if you prefer. Turbinado sugar, sometimes called raw sugar, is available at most grocery stores. If you substitute white sugar, you may need to use more, so add slowly and adjust to taste. Other sweeteners, such as agave nectar, honey, and brown sugar, can be used but you will need to use less and adjust to taste. Double straining is very important in this recipe, since the bananas will disintegrate a bit and leave some goo behind. Any leftover unstrained bits will cause off flavors over time.

- Yield: Makes about 1 2/3 cups
- Active time: 10 minutes
- Total time: 4 days
Ingredients
- 2 bananas, peeled and sliced
- 1 1/2 cups light rum
- 1/2 cup water
- 1/2 cup turbinado sugar
Directions
Place the banana slices in a sealable glass jar, then add the rum. Seal and shake. Let mixture steep for 3 days at room temperature away from direct sunlight. Strain out the fruit, then filter mixture through through two layers of cheesecloth, pressing down to extract liquid. Repeat the straining to get any debris that made it through the initial pass.
Heat water and sugar in a pot on medium heat until it boils and forms a syrup, 7 to 10 minutes. Let syrup cool.
Combine syrup with banana infusion. Seal in bottle or jar, then shake to mix. Let rest for a minimum of one day. Store in the refrigerator for up to two months.

Banana-Mango Smoothie
Start your day with a flavorful fruit smoothie. This drink is as delicious as breakfast, but also serves well as an afternoon snack or even a frosty dessert.
Ingredients
- 1 cup cubed peeled ripe mango
- 3/4 cup sliced ripe banana (about 1 medium)
- 2/3 cup fat-free milk
- 1 tablespoon nonfat dry milk (optional)
- 1 teaspoon honey
- 1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract

How to Make It
Arrange the mango cubes in a single layer on a baking sheet; freeze until firm (about 1 hour). Place frozen mango and the remaining ingredients in a blender. Process until smooth.
Chef's Notes
Freeze the cubed mango overnight in an airtight container to make this smoothie a snap to throw together (for variety, try substituting frozen berries for the mango). Remember to let frozen mango thaw for 15 minutes to soften slightly. The dry milk is optional, but one tablespoon provides about 100 milligrams of calcium.

BBC Frozen Drink | Bailey’s Banana Colada
TGIF! As many of you may know, one of our favorite vacation spots is St. Maarten.
The beach, the food — and the refreshing frozen drinks, like the BBC.
Ever since our first visit to St. Maarten, we’ve been HUGE fans of the Guavaberry Colada. However, you can’t get the Guavaberry liqueur just anywhere, so I don’t think it would be fair to share that recipe. Last year when we were on the island, we had a drink towards the end of the trip and said, “we have to remember this one.” Guess what? We didn’t.
Sooo, this summer we tried to remember the ‘other frozen’ drink we had tried. The BBC sounded familiar, so we ordered a couple at lunch one day. SCORE! Unfortunately, the Guavaberry Colada took the back burner the remainder of the trip. We were sipping on BBC frozen drinks each day while at the beach. The hubs watched the beach bartender make them and noted the ingredients in hopes that we could return home and enjoy them on our deck. After a few tweaks, the hubs did just that!
That’s exactly what I’m going to share with you today — the delicious, refreshing BBC Frozen Beverage. This Bailey’s Banana Colada is treat that’s sure to please the tastebuds!

Oh, I love St. Maarten. Stopped there on a cruise in 1987 and have been back to stay a number of times. I did get the recipe for BBCs from a friendly bartender and enjoyed many homeade ones over the years. The best ones though are always those on a tropical island.
YAY for St. Maarten! Thanks so much for stopping by, Iris. I couldn’t agree more — the best BBCs are those on a beach in the Caribbean 🙂 Cheers.
This was my favorite drink on my honeymoon in St. Lucia. Thanks for reminding me to make it myself. It is so delicious.
YAY! So glad to hear it’s a familiar drink to you. They are amazingly addictive! Have a fabulous weekend, Megan. Hugs.
When you say 1 oz. Cream of Coconut……what is that? A liquer? I need to make this. It tastes yummy in my mind!
Hi JoAnne! It’s not a liqueur. It usually comes in a can (http://amzn.to/1oBssqo) or squeeze bottle (http://amzn.to/XnHEwi). It’s usually located in the liquor aisle. Hope that helps — and enjoy!
This is why I gain weight in the summer, and have to lose it in the winter. Fruity frozen beverages are awesome!
I’m still going to make one when I get home though. Summer’s NOT over yet.
This looks totally amazing! Summer in a glass!
I’m making this this weekend (Even though it’s really not quite warm enough)
I’m thinking my kids will be really jealous, and I’m going to have to find a way to make a non-alcoholic version. Maybe substitute milk or ice cream for the liquor…
Thanks for the recipe – I’m sitting of my desk and work, and all I can think about is hitting the liquor store on my way home.
I’m sure you enjoyed this yummy frozen beverage Melody!! I’m glad you gave it a try. 🙂 …and your kids would definately appreciate a non-alocohol version of it. Have a wonderful day! HUGS.
Wow, that sounds awesome! So awesome, I actually added it to an article I wrote titled “Caribbean Destination Inspiration.” Thanks so much, check out my article here: http://www.cameraandcarryon.com/destination-inspiration-caribbean/

So is this Wily’s BBC recipe? We just got back Monday …..
Hi Randy. We just got back from our 8th visit this past Friday. This isn’t Willy’s recipe per se, we watched her make them and came home and kept practicing until it tasted about the same. I can say that ours is much lighter on the rum though (hee-hee). Cheers!
