Explore our neighbourhood.
Victoriaplatz is where Düsseldorf’s modern love affair with fashion got its start. For six decades — since Igedo introduced its fashion fair here in 1949 — our neighbourhood has launched revolutionary style into the world with authenticity and flair. The meaning of Düsseldorf as a fashion city has grown constantly, drawing buyers from across the globe. The district’s catwalks and showrooms have helped spread fashion styles across Europe, and while coming to grips with even a small percentage of the brands represented here would entail weeks of work, the "Fashion City" beckons anyone, everyone, to try.
If you want an insider’s view of the fashion world, why not wander around the new Koe-Bogen between Koenigsallee and Hofgarten? Visit The Gallery and take in different buildings around Kaiserswerther Strasse where leading designers present their new collections and accessories for the new season.
If you’d like to experience the city as a local, take the 701 tram route, which starts just around the corner from us. You’ll get a unique sightseeing tour through our neighbourhood and more. The route takes in the stunning boulevard Koenigsallee and the university.
To see a different side of the neighbourhood, take a walk through the vibrant streets of the Pempelfort district. It’s full of historic buildings which contrast with modern fashion showrooms. Or if you’d like to indulge in a spot of retail therapy, you’ll find the famous shopping boulevards of Koenigsallee and the Altstadt are a pleasant stroll away.
Every Wednesday and Saturday this farmers market offers you the best of regional products, which have been harvested in a radius of 80 km. You’ll be amazed how many vegetables, fruits and plants grow in Düsseldorf’s neighbourhood. http://www.rheinischer-bauernmarkt.de
In the evening, head to Mutt’s, a local favourite at Pfalzstraße 17A, for good music, good beer and a warm atmosphere.
Discover the best of oils, wines and grappa just a few steps away from our boutique hotel. The little shop is packed with old barrels filled with all kind of tasty liquids, and offers a great range of bottle sizes from tiny to big ones in which they bottle the delicious treasures. You can even bottle the liquids yourself! www.fass-bar.de/rahmen_frame.htm
When standing in front of the Hotel Indigo Düsseldorf Victoriaplatz, just follow the smell of freshly made coffee and you will find the nice little coffee shop “Die Kaffee”. Here, the coffee is hand-made, roasted and served by the coffee expert and shop owner Olga, a Barista championship participant several times over. die-kaffee.de
This little chocolatier is literally right on the doorstep of our boutique hotel. Family Kuhlen produces their handmade chocolate, cakes, tarts and other sweet temptations according to old family recipes. Find classic chocolate creations, but also unusual ones like mustard pralines and buy chocolate decorated with Düsseldorf’s sights or skyline. http://www.chocolatier-kuhlen.de
The shop is only a 3-minute walk away from our hotel. Especially in summer time, frozen yoghurt is the perfect refreshment in the afternoon. The friendly staff can help you to select from the wide range of different toppings and sauces. If you prefer a cool drink, no problem: Yogurt Liebe offers freshly mixed smoothies, too.

Right now we have no departures. That may be because we do not have any direct flight to your destination right now. Continue to the timetable to find suggestions for the best travel route.
Düsseldorf’s Königsallee is one of a small group of internationally famous streets that may justifiably call themselves boulevards. Affectionately called the “Kö” by Düsseldorf’s residents, attention always turns to it when people talk about Düsseldorf. It is the primary shopping street in Düsseldorf, and as its nucleus, it connects the city centre to provide a continuous shopping experience ranging from the Altstadt (Old Town) through to the Kö and all the way to Schadowstraße. If you’ve ever strolled along Konigsallee, you’ll know that shopping in Dusseldorf has a charm all of its own. Come along, see and be seen – and do some truly stylish shopping as well. Even the most extravagant wishes are fulfilled on Dusseldorf’s “Ko”.
Nowhere else in Düsseldorf can one feel the city’s heartbeat so clearly as in the Altstadt. Those who want to party, people in search of culture, or history lovers will all be equally well catered for in this area between the Rhine and Heinrich-Heine Allee that covers an area of less than half a square kilometre. This tiny space is crammed with around 260 eateries, pubs, bars, discos and restaurants, and one would be hard pressed to find the like in any other city. The Altstadt is also home to Altbier – a real Düsseldorf speciality.
Burgplatz is where the little River Düssel, which gave the town its name, flows into the Rhine. In the background is the former collegiate church St. Lambertus with the shrine of St. Apolinaris. Next to the bridge over the Düssel, the monument to Düsseldorf being granted the privileges of a town demonstrates impressively more than 725 years of town history (town status granted in 1288). The square is dominated by Alter Schlossturm, the old palace tower (now the Schifffahrt-Museum navigation museum) and last testimony to the princely palace from the 13th century that fell victim to flames in 1872. The generously proportioned Rhine embankment promenade is considered one of the most beautiful on the Rhine. Upriver, the Medien- Hafen is characterised by outstanding architectural creations, and the elegant district of Oberkassel on the opposite bank by art-nouveau facades.
Carlstadt is the city’s exquisite quarter of galleries and antique shops. Citadellstraße with its elegant stately residences from the 18th and 19th centuries and the flair of its streets almost unchanged since these days, seems to have escaped the passing of time. A more profound insight into Düsseldorf’s history can be gained at Stadtmuseum at the corner of Bäckerstraße and Berger Allee. Its cosy garden is treated as an insidertip! The Carlsplatz, and its lively food market open from Monday to Saturday. From here, take the attractive Bilker Straße for a visit to the Heinrich-Heine- Institute or proceed past the former residence of Robert and Clara Schumann to Bastionstraße, a must for every lover of antiques.
The Rhine tower, the North Rhine-Westphalia parliament, the Gehry Buildings, the city gate or Colorium – MedienHafen is a hotspot for creative architecture in Düsseldorf. Several international architects played a creative role in the reconstruction of the old Rhine port area. Frank O. Gehry, David Chipperfield, Joe Coenen, Steven Holl and Claude Vasconi were among those who made a creative contribution to make it what it is today. Those goods depots which were protected by a preservation order had to be renovated with hi-tech engineering and creative interior design. The ancient storerooms have been recreated with a new style and grace. However, you can still feel the old port atmosphere everywhere despite all the reconstruction. Just a decade ago the warehouses were nothing but immense empty spaces inside. Today, various television channels and radio stations, and advertising and media agencies, design bureaus and suchlike have all set up shop inside. So that’s where the name came from: MedienHafen, which means media harbour. The MedienHafen also plays in the premier league where hospitality is concerned. From the exquisite “Berens am Kai”, with a Michelin star, through the “most golden” curry sausage in Düsseldorf, to a cosy cocktail in the evening – the restaurateurs here have adapted to their heterogeneous clientele, which is composed of business customers during the day and the funky in-crowd in the evening, who all meet up to party at the stylish “Rudas Studios” advertising film venue or at the “Port Seven”.
The Rheinturm (built 1979 – 1982, architect H. Deilmann) is a striking landmark on the Düsseldorf’s Rhine skyline. It stands on the edge of the southern city centre, at the entrance to the MedienHafen, right beside the North Rhine-Westphalian parliament building (Landtag) and the building of the public broadcaster, Westdeutscher Rundfunk. It is 240.5 metres high, with a glass-fronted 180-seat restaurant at an altitude of 172.5 metres that rotates on its axis once an. A bar and lounge is located below the restaurant (168m) as is a viewing platform (164m) with a breathtaking view of the Rhine metropolis: the MedienHafen, the Altstadt, the Hofgarten, Königsallee and the Rhine with its family of bridges all lie at the feet of the tower. When the weather is good, one can see as far as Cologne Cathedral. Thanks to a level entrance in the basement of the tower, the building offers barrier-free access.
Düsseldorf has the third largest Japanese community on the European continent after Paris and London. In the vicinity of the Immermannstraße, you can find a wide range of Japanese supermarkets, book shops, restaurants and more.
The EKŌ-House - since 1993 a centre for Japanese culture - consists of a Buddhist temple (the only Japanese temple in Europe), Japanese gardens, a traditional house with tearoom and, since 1999, another building including a library and an international kindergarten. The most important function of the EKŌ-House is the cultural exchange between East and West: Japanese citizens cultivate their traditions and allow local citizens the unique opportunity to participate.

Female Friendly Business Travel by City
Dusseldorf
Düsseldorf is the capital of North-Rhine –Westphalia, the most densely populated federal state of Germany. The city itself has a population of over 600 000. Today Düsseldorf is an important centre for fashion, trade, administration and the service industries. The city has been chosen as headquarters for many multinational companies and host for many international trade fairs such as DRUPA fair (the no. 1 for print and crossmedia solutions). It is a very multicultural and cosmopolitan city and world famous architects such as Frank Gehry have left their traces here. Lots of festival/ local activities such as Carnival, Japan day and Metro Marathon take place every year. Düsseldorf is a centre for chic hotels, fashion showrooms, telecom companies, media (mainly at the Media harbor area) and advertising agencies and offers an exciting nightlife. Fashion lovers as well as antique lovers will find all they need on the famous KÖ (Königsallee), one of Germany’s best-known shopping streets.
The average yearly temperature is at 10.6 degrees Celsius with 800 mm of rain. During the summer months (July and August) it can get warm and sticky especially at the end of the day. On the other side the winters stay quite mild with only a few days of snow per year.
local business etiquette and customs
In general for most Germans life consists of two largely separate areas: their professional life and their private life. In professional life, cool correctness is the order of the day. In private, they like to be easy-going and informal. Being on time and following the rules will make your life much easier. In Düsseldorf people are very international (lots of Asian cultures based here), known for being friendly (the Rhine area is well known for their open minded and friendliness approach) and 70% speak at least a little English.
TRAVEL AND TRANSPORT
Public transportation: The public transportation in Düsseldorf is very easy; trams, underground, S-bahn lines run every approx. 5-10 minutes, and every 10-15 min during the weekend. You can buy your ticket at the Rheinbahn ticket machines and pay with coins/notes or card (no credit cards)
Taxi: Taxi stands in Germany are located in the vicinity of many of the larger hotels, close to tourist attractions, airport, central train station, downtown. When leaving a restaurant or hotel, it is common for them to order a taxi for you. They will then inform you how long the waiting time until arrival will be and it is advisable to wait outside or close to the entrance when the taxi arrives. Often taxi drivers are not German natives and speak a variety or bits and pieces of foreign languages. You can rely on them to get you to your destination in the shortest/fastest possible manner as they are monitored.
Average costs (compared to other German cities) are high. Transfer to airport around €30,- single way (from city centre). There are two taxi companies in Dusseldorf: Rhein taxi and Taxi Düsseldorf. You can call and order on phone, price is the same: Rhein taxi 0049 211 21 21 21, Taxi Düsseldorf 0049 211 333 33. I personally prefer to use the Mytaxi app and pay by credit card.
Düsseldorf Airport is the third largest in Germany and has some nice shops & restaurants. You can get the S11 from the main train station directly to all the terminals.
dining and bars
Düsseldorf provides a great variety of leisure activities. There is a huge number of art galleries, museums and theatres which offer a high standard of culture and art. There are a lot of beautiful parks, great restaurants, bars, wonderful shopping. The wide range of typical food offers something for everyone. Düsseldorf is also known for a big Japanese, Korean and Vietnamese community. Immermann (Little Tokyo) strasse is filled with their traditional restaurants and little stores. Great shopping is also on Königsallee (called also Kö ), Schadowstrasse, Altstadt and many more.
You can find a lot of bars/restaurants on http://prinz.de/duesseldorf/ (German website)
1/ Sushi restaurants such as Maruyasu, Kiku or Okinii- enjoy one of the best Sushi places around the Immerman Strasse/ Ost Strasse.
2/ Harbour Area restaurants such as Meerbar, Hans im Glück or Böser Chinese. A great variety of food; fish, burger or Asian food. Insider tip: After a lovely dinner enjoy a nice cocktail at the Hyatt Regency Düsseldorf or Innside Düsselorf Hafen view bar on the 16 th floor.
3/ Ratinger Strasse: lots of local/Italian restaurants and bars such as Schlösser Quartier, Zum Goldenen Einhorn or Pinocchio (best pizza ever). Lots of local people especially on the Thursday night. (after-work drink)
In Altstadt you can find the longest bar in the world, which is actually a whole street, bar after bar, it is difficult to tell where one ends and the other one starts. Drinks specific for this area are Altbier (darker beer), Killepitsch (liqueur) and the Rhenish (white wine); all very tasty.
WOMEN’S NETWORKS AND EVENTS
bEAUTY AND FITNESS
There are a couple of Fitness First clubs in and around the city (KÖ or Schadow Arkade). The International Hotel offers Holmes Place. Next to this you can also rent a bike (https://www.duesseldorf.de/radschlag/fahrradhaendler-werkstaetten.html) or take your running shoes for a ride/walk along the Rhine River (evening with lighting).
For a short relaxation you could enjoy swimming/sauna at the Münster Therme (beautiful traditional swimming hall). Or enjoy a relaxing beauty treatment at Babor Spa Düsseldorf at the Hofgarten. There are also many of the 5* hotels offering special packages (via hotel website)
SAFETY and emergency services
As for the safety I do feel very safe in this city. The one area where I maybe don‘t feel as comfortable is around the central train station so called “Hauptbahnhof” (only 1 KM around the station). Just like any other train station in the world. Also one of the “wilder parts” of the city are some of the streets around Altstadt (downtown), where a lot of partying takes place, the area can be very crowded with lots of bachelor/ette parties going on during the weekend. Lots of fun though.
AMBASSADOR: SITSKE DE ROO
I am a positive thinking Dutch lady living together with my husband and 2 cats in Düsseldorf –Oberkassel only 300 meters from the Rhine River. During the week I travel between Frankfurt- Düsseldorf- London for work. Enjoying my true passion for the Hotel Industry and dreaming of having my own hotel one day. At the weekends you can either find me biking/hiking or running outside in and around the city. Especially enjoying the summer evenings outside with friends having some wine/ alt beer and dinner at one of the several “Biergarten”. My addiction: ice cream or cupcakes (depending on the season). My motto: When in doubt…..do it! You can always regret later.
